LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Despite objections many parents of students at Andre Agassi College Prep Academy, its board members approved a merger that could result in longer school days for students.

An open town hall meeting involving the board and parents got heated over five hours Wednesday night. The majority of parents opposed the school's proposed integration with Democracy Prep academy.

The merger with the academy held several changes with students that include 10-hour school days, a school week of six days and silent lunches and hallways.

Another town hall was scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday. A final vote to confirm the merger is set for Dec. 13.

As a whole, Democracy Prep holds 19 satellite campuses with more than 50,000 students.
