LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The grandmother of the seven-year-old boy police say was beaten to death by his mother's roommate is speaking out has broken her silence.

She says her daughter had nothing to do with the death and now they're just trying to piece their family back together again.

Vera Dawson got the frantic call from her daughter Sunday and flew straight from Louisiana to Las Vegas. Since then, she's had the same question as many: “What happened in that room at Siegel Suites that could have led to something so tragic?”

An arrest report states Roshoun Malone's roommate, Kenneth Robinson, admitted to slapping Richard Ra’Masje Findley in the head and hitting him in the stomach before tying his hands behind his back with t-shirts and leaving him for hours. He said Malone tied the child's legs up earlier that day

“I don't understand why this incident had to happen like he was a bad child, he's never been bad,” Dawson said.

Robinson went on to admit that Ra'Masje threw up twice that day, and he knew something was wrong with him. Malone told police she woke up on the couch and her son was already bound. She also said she did not witness any abuse that day, but had seen Robinson hit her son in the past.

“She had nothing to do with it, so how could she be charged for something she had nothing to do with?” Dawson asked.

“My daughter raised him the way I raised her. I have three beautiful daughters, she had three beautiful kids, and I hate that I had to lose my grandson, my oldest grandson, only seven years old,” a tearful Dawson said.

Out of all the tragedy, Dawson just wants Ra'Masje to be remembered as the great kid that he was.

“He was going to be something, he was going to make somebody happy because of the child he was.”

Ra'Masje's siblings are now in the custody of their father while the investigation continues. It's something Dawson and the mother's side are pretty upset about because they say he's been untraceable for years.
