HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -

A former professional boxer from New Mexico was arrested in Henderson, accused of sexually assaulting and strangling his wife or girlfriend on Sunset Road, police said.

Investigators haven't said yet exactly what happened immediately leading up to the arrest of Archie Ray Marquez, 28, but documents show he has a history in Las Vegas in addition to a criminal history in Albuquerque.

Marquez was married in Las Vegas last year, but that was before he got into trouble and had a GPS-tracker strapped to his ankle, prohibiting him from leaving the state of New Mexico.

KOB-TV in Albuquerque first reported on the court documents, which indicate Marquez had been arrested because his wife or girlfriend called 911, telling officers he had a gun pointed at her head. A judge ruled that Marquez was a danger to the community and banned him from drinking, doing drugs or having weapons. He was also not allowed to contact the woman.

Marquez had been arrested five times in Albuquerque in the past two years, accused of abusing children, assaulting women and cussing at police officers. In every case the charges have been dropped.

Jamie Marquez, Archie Marquez's ex-wife, said she isn't the victim in this case, but she also said she has talked to the woman who was kidnapped and brought to Henderson.

She said they have a lot in common.

"He always sexually abused me -- mentally and physically," said Jamie Marquez. "He put a hole in my head. He just used to beat me in front of the kids."

Probation officers in Albuquerque said Archie Marquez's tracking device was tampered with before showing up in Nevada.
