LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department are still looking for the person, or people, who shot and killed a young couple inside their apartment on South Hualapai Way.

Now they say they have a few leads.

"Evidence at the scene suggests that there may be two adult male suspects however they have yet to be identified," they wrote in a press release. "A motive remains unknown."

Investigators told FOX5 that the couple was dead inside the apartment for "at least 24 hours" before somebody found them. They're hoping somebody comes forward to report anything they may have seen that was suspicious.

Some neighbors described the complex as a quiet neighborhood. Others complained of crimes being swept under the rug.

Family members said 20-year-old Neo Kauffman and 21-year-old Sydney Land were killed in the shooting.

At a candlelight vigil on Thursday night, Kauffman's basketball coach, Michael Buchanan, described the young man as a "good-hearted, kind-hearted kid."

"I found out through my son. I made it home and he told me what happened and it was pretty devastating," he said, his voice cracking. "My son could have been there with him that day. They're very close friends."

Others described Kauffman as the kind of guy everybody wanted to be around because he was funny and made everybody's day brighter.

"His laugh was honestly contagious," said Cheyenne Dorner, one of his friends. "I have no clue (why this would happen). Not at all. This hit me like a train."

Land's friends and family said they will remember her as a young woman with a huge heart who would do anything to help people.

"I just love her so much and I miss her and I hope she's up there watching over everybody," cried her sister, Kendall Land. "Everybody loved her. She was my best friend."

A Go Fund Me account was created to assist the Land family with funeral expenses. If you would like to donate, you can do so here
