LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas Metro police on Thursday reported two women are charged in connection to the Aug. 10 death of a child.

About 12:30 a.m. that day, police responded to a home in the 2500 block of Duck Arrow Circle, near the intersection of Vegas Drive and Simmons Street, following a call concerning a dead child.

An investigation showed the child’s mother, Kendra Hatch, and aunt, Mylynda Hatch, provided the child with prescription medications that had not been prescribed for the child in order to treat injury symptoms.

Lethal levels of multiple prescription pain medications were found in the child’s system, police said.

On Oct. 26, warrants were issued for their arrests. They are charged with open murder.

Police wished to remind parents to responsibly store prescription medications and to never administer them to someone who does not have a prescription for that medication.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information was urged to contact Metro’s Abuse and Neglect Section at 702-828-3364. Those wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
