LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas Metro police said a teenager suffered critical injuries in a crash Wednesday evening.

The incident happened at 6:27 p.m. on Carey Avenue and Christy Lane, near Nellis Boulevard.

According to police, a 16-year-old was behind the wheel of a 2001 Dodge Caravan when he did not stop at a stop sign at Christy Lane. The Dodge traveled through the intersection and left the roadway. The van went through a fence and the front of the vehicle struck a brick masonry post, which caused the vehicle to rollover.

The driver was not using a seat belt, police said. He was transported to University Medical Center with critical injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
