LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Police said a woman in her 20s was shot in the head as an apparent result of a homicide early Wednesday in west Las Vegas.

“Maybe mid-20s, laying in a puddle of blood,” said Charlie Carlisi, a neighbor who witnessed the aftermath of the shooting. “She was shot right behind the ear, and she wasn’t moving."

According to Las Vegas Metro police, officers responded to a call of a shooting in the area of View Drive and Quartz Lane, near Alta Drive and Jones Boulevard, at 12:46 a.m. They arrived to find a wounded woman on the sidewalk.

Carlisi heard two gunshots and stepped outside to see what happened.

“I went back to the house and got my phone,” Carlisi said. “I called 911 and then I came over to see if she was breathing or moving.”

Citing a preliminary investigation, police said the shooting could be domestic-related. Police later said no one witnessed the incident, but gunshots were heard in the area.

Police also mentioned a gray four-door car was seen leaving the area, but the department cautioned the car may or may not be involved in the incident.

On Thursday, Metro detectives said they are seeking the public’s help in identifying the victim.

She was described as black with numerous tattoos on her body. She had a butterfly tattoo above her left breast and a bird tattoo on her right shoulder.

“It’s concerning especially when you don’t know what happened,” Carlisi said.

The incident marked the 140th homicide in Metro's jurisdiction. The Clark County Coroner's Office was assigned to identify the woman.

Police urged anyone with information on the case to contact Metro's Homicide Section at 702-828-3521 or homicide@lvmpd.com. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
