After a stint that saw the hiring of new head coaches in the men's basketball and football programs, UNLV's athletics director is expected to step down from the role next year.

According to the university's athletics department, Tina Kunzer-Murphy received a six-month extension to stay in the role after her original contract expires in December. Kunzer-Murphy will be reassigned to a new position with the UNLV Foundation beginning on July 1, 2017.

Kunzer-Murphy, who was tapped to the position in an interim basis in 2013 and later hired outright, expressed her gratitude in leading her alma mater's athletics department.

"I was here both during challenging times and thrilling milestones for the Rebels and am proud of our accomplishments on and off the field," Kunzer-Murphy said in a news release.

Among the department's accomplishments under Kunzer-Murphy, UNLV touted marked improvements academically among its student-athletes. Under her leadership, the football program was able to draw the athletics department's largest single gift when the Fertitta Family pledged $10 million for a new practice and wellness facility.

In addition, Rebels baseball, tennis, soccer and golf, among other sports, received facility upgrades.

Most notably, Kunzer-Murphy oversaw the hiring of former Bishop Gorman High School football coach Tony Sanchez to lead the Rebels football program in 2014. In the recent offseason, she also oversaw the hiring of former New Mexico State coach Marvin Menzies as the new UNLV Runnin' Rebels head coach.

Plans to hire the next athletics director were not immediately express.
