UNLV professor who was attacked upgraded to fair condition

HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -

According to Sunrise Hospital spokeswoman Marissa Mussi, the UNLV professor who was attacked while jogging earlier this month has been upgraded to fair condition.

Leslie Griffin, a professor at the William S. Boyd School of Law, was attacked on Friday, Oct. 7 in the area of Paseo Verde Parkway and Desert Shadow Trail in Henderson.

Police identified the suspect in the attack as 23-year-old Michael Mattingly. It’s believed that in addition to attacking Griffin, Mattingly attempted to carjack a person who was rendering aid to her.

Mattingly was booked into Henderson Detention Center on charges of battery with substantial bodily harm, attempted robbery and violation of probation.

According to her online bio, Griffin teaches constitutional law and is also well known for her work in religion.
