LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A California man was identified as the victim in a shooting that happened adjacent to the Las Vegas Strip on Friday night.

According to the Clark County Coroner's Office, Fuli Ji, 52, of Chino Hills, CA, died of multiple gunshot wounds as a result of a homicide.

Las Vegas Metro police responded to a call of a shooting on Jay Sarno Way, just off Frank Sinatra Drive, behind the Caesars Palace hotel-casino at 11:25 p.m. Officers located Ji's body in the area.

Witnesses directed officers to a person running from the scene and into one of the parking garages of the casino property. Additional officers were called to help detain the person, who was later identified as 27-year-old Charles Smith.

Police said the shooting took place inside of a van, which was found outside of the parking garage.

The relationship between Smith and Ji was not immediately disclosed. The incident represented the 138th homicide in Metro's jurisdiction this year.
