LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Police are investigating a homicide near the Las Vegas Strip late Friday night where one person was shot and killed.

Metro responded to reports of a person being shot in an employee parking garage on Jay Sarno Way, just off of Frank Sinatra Drive, and behind the Caesars Palace hotel-casino at about 11:25 p.m.

Officers said they located a male victim deceased near a van with multiple gun shot wounds, according to the report.

Responding units were able to make contact with the suspect and take him into custody according to Metro. Police located the suspect, 27-year-old Charles Smith, on the second floor of the parking garage.

Police said the shooting took place inside of a van, which was parked in the garage for a couple of hours.

Authorities said the incident remains under investigation and the relationship between the two involved in this situation is not know at this time.

Jay Sarno Way, leading into Caesars Palace, was reported to have restricted access overnight while the police investigation was taking place.

Smith was transported and booked into the Clark County Detention Center, according to police. He will face at least one count of murder with the use of a deadly weapon.

The Clark County Coroner's Office will release the identity of the victim when it becomes available.

This is the 138 homicide investigated by the LVMP in 2016.
