Clark County Accepting Applications for New Stadium Authority Board

Posted: Updated:

Clark County is now accepting applications from those interested in serving on the new Clark County Stadium Authority Board of Directors.

The passage of Senate Bill 1 requires the Clark County Commission to appoint three of the board’s nine members within 30 days of the effective date of the bill, which was signed by Gov. Brian Sandoval on Monday.

The deadline to apply to serve on the stadium authority board is Tuesday, Nov. 8 at noon. The County Commission will consider the applications and make an appointment at its Tuesday, Nov. 15 meeting.

SB 1 requires the County Commission to make at least one of the three appointments from nominees submitted by Caesars Entertainment Corp. and MGM Resorts International, the two companies that generate the greatest amount of room tax revenue in Southern Nevada. The $1.9 billion, 65,000-seat domed stadium is being funded in part with $750 million in bonds backed by an increase in the local room tax rate.

For the other two appointments, Clark County today posted an application on its website at www.ClarkCountyNV.gov.

The legislation requires that the stadium board members reside within the stadium district, which takes in much of the Las Vegas Valley and encompasses the area within 25 miles of the Clark County Government Center in downtown Las Vegas. A map depicting this area was also posted on the County website.

The legislation also requires that each member have experience in at least one of the following areas:

* Experience in the design, engineering and construction of major commercial projects and estimating the costs of the construction of major commercial projects;

* Experience in the financing of capital projects in Nevada;

* Experience in the field of stadium, arena or event management;

* Experience in workforce development, training, diversity, or supplier engagement; OR

* Be representative of the private sector and have the education, experience and skills necessary to effectively execute the duties and responsibilities of a member of the board of directors.
