UNLV putting final touches on final presidential debate

Posted: Updated:

Walking around UNLV's campus, it's clear that it's debate week in Las Vegas.

"That's all anyone's been talking about," UNLV student and debate volunteer Andrew Slackway said.

Slackway was working one of several booths on the UNLV campus that provides debate information to students and visitors.

"Basically what we're doing is giving out general information about the debate, about the university itself and giving out free swag for everyone," Slackway said. "It's pretty calm right now, but as the big day gets closer it's going to get packed and everybody is going to be wondering about everything."

Inside the Thomas and Mack it was anything but calm on Monday as crews put together the debate stage that the presidential nominees will square off on.

"Today is the final construction day and tomorrow we go into checks and tests. We make sure all our backup systems are working, we have some rehearsals and then its debate day," Senior Adviser for the Commission on Presidential Debates Peter Eyre said. "We're really on the finishing touches."

Eyre said getting to those finishing touches took more than a year of planning.

"This is a challenge. It is one of three times that the leading contenders for the office of president will be in one place. It's the last of the debates," Eyre said.
