LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas Metro police are investigating a shooting on southbound Interstate 15 Saturday morning where one person lost their life.

Metro responded to a reported shooting at about 9:30 a.m. near Sahara Avenue on the I-15.

Officers located two people, a couple, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside a vehicle. A woman, identified by family as Tracy Donahue, was in critical condition after the shooting, but later passed away, and a man was treated at University Medical Center, according to police. A family member later confirmed to FOX5 the man was treated and released from the hospital.

The suspected shooter, identified as 29-year-old Kenneth McDonald, fled the original scene on the freeway and drove to a CVS Pharmacy, located in the 8100 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard, where he was located by police.

Paula Hyde was inside the CVS Pharmacy when McDonald walked into the business armed with two guns.

"He was calm, very calm," Hyde said while describing McDonald. "He knew exactly where he was going, straight to the minute clinic"

About 10 to 15 people were inside the store and in the midst of the chaos McDonald tried to sexually assault a young woman, Hyde said.

"He had pulled his pants down and made an obscene gesture to her and then she pushed him and she told him don't touch me," Hyde said. The young woman was able to make it outside of the store.

The victims escaped through the back of the store, Hyde said.

Police confirmed McDonald was taken into custody with the help of a Metro K-9 without further incident at about 10:30 a.m. after being inside the business, police said.

Homicide detectives said preliminary stages of the investigation indicate the shooting appears to be random. The incident remains under investigation.

Las Vegas Boulevard and Windmill Lane were closed during the incident and I-15 southbound travel lanes were also closed for most of the morning, but did reopen partially around 12:30 p.m.

A Go Fund Me was created to assist the Donahue family. If you would like to donate, you can find the campaign here

McDonald was booked into the Clark County Detention Center for murder, attempted murder, and numerous counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle, police said. McDonald is being held without bail. Detectives will file further charges later this week.

Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact Metro's homicide section at 702-828-3521 or by email. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
