PAHRUMP, NV (FOX5) -

The Nye County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday reported a school district employee accused of child sexual abuse was taken into custody Tuesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, the department said, a 17-year-old female student in Pahrump reported that she had been sexually assaulted by a 28-year-old man.

The suspect, Jose Manuel Bautista, 28, of Pahrump, was employed as a paraprofessional assistant. He worked with special needs students.

It was further reported that Bautista engaged in lewd conversations with the victim on social media before taking her to his home. Deputies reported he was under influence of narcotics when the attack occurred.

A search warrant was issued, and deputies said evidence was discovered at Bautista’s home supporting the accusation.

Bautista, who was booked into the Nye County Detention Center, is facing charges of child sexual abuse, unlawful sexual acts by a school employee with a pupil and use and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bautista’s bail was set at $350,000.

Anyone with additional information was urged to call the Nye County Sheriff’s Office at 775-751-7000. You may also send an email message to NCSO_Detectives@co.nye.nv.us.
