HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -

Henderson police said a man is in custody after a woman was beaten and left bleeding on a sidewalk Friday afternoon.

The attack occurred after 4 p.m. in the area of Paseo Verde Parkway and Desert Shadow Trail, just west of South Valle Verde Drive.

According to Henderson Police Department spokeswoman Michelle French, several witnesses saw suspect Michael Mattingly, 23, kicking the victim, who, according to those witnesses, was jogging in the area.

French said Mattingly fled the area on foot and attempted to carjack one of the people who stopped to render aid to the victim.

After being confronted by a witness, French said, Mattingly returned to the crime scene, where he was taken into custody by Henderson police.

Mattingly was booked into Henderson Detention Center, where he faces charges of battery with substantial bodily harm, attempted robbery and violation of probation.

His bail was set at $150,000.
