Suspect in custody following standoff near Stratosphere

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Police said a person suspected of assaulting a woman barricaded himself at a residence near the Stratosphere hotel-casino on Monday.

According to Officer Danny Cordero, of Las Vegas Metro police, officers were called to the 200 block of West Philadelphia Avenue, shortly after 8 a.m.

The person refused to exit the home when officers made contact with him, Cordero said.

SWAT officers were later called to the scene in the course of the police activity. About 4:35 p.m. Monday, police reported the suspect had  been taken into custody and the standoff was over.
