Victim of homicide at CCDC identified

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas Metro police said they are investigating a homicide at the Clark County Detention Center Saturday evening and have a suspect in custody.

Police said they responded to an incident at about 5:30 p.m. at the detention center, located in the 300 block of South Casino Center Boulevard.

A corrections officer discovered an inmate down, bleeding from his head, and medical personnel were called to the scene according to Metro.

The inmate was transported to the University Medical Center, but was later pronounced deceased.

A homicide investigation was initiated by officers and an inmate was located in another cell who was responsible for the incident according to police.

Evidence at the scene suggested there was a physical altercation in the cell and that substantial injuries were sustained to one of the inmates as a result.

On Monday, the victim was identified as 25-year-old Jeremy Bowling, of Kentucky. His cause of death was ruled a result of strangulation and blunt force injuries. His death was additionally ruled a homicide.

Franklin Sharp, 33, was booked on an open murder charge related to this homicide investigation.

This was homicide number 130 in Metro's jurisdiction in 2016.
