NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -

The North Las Vegas Fire Department reported that one of its captains died Wednesday night following a medical emergency. His death is considered to have occurred in the line of duty because he was working a three-alarm fire on his final shift prior to the medical episode.

Capt. Yaphet Miller, of E-53 (A) Platoon, died peacefully about 10:20 p.m., the department reported.

Miller, 43, served with the North Las Vegas Fire Department for 22 years. His funeral arrangements are pending.

The department said Miller was part of one of the best moments in its history, stating he was able to save a toddler from almost certain death. Further, Miller and his crew reunited with the victim nearly eight years later.
