A 28-year-old man turned himself in to Las Vegas police on Wednesday after detectives identified him as the suspect in a death at a ransacked home.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, James Farr II was taken into custody at department's headquarters. Farr was booked into Clark County Detention Center on counts of open murder, burglary while possessing a firearm and grand larceny auto.

Farr is the suspect in the Oct. 1 homicide of 27-year-old Chad Shelton, who died as a result of a gunshot of the chest.

Police said Shelton's body was found by a roommate in the 5400 block of Surrey Street, near Hacienda and Eastern avenues. Metro interviewed four total roommates regarding Shelton's death.

Citing one of the roommates, police said the home appeared to be ransacked and two guns were possibly missing from the residence. A vehicle was also missing from the residence.

A motive was not immediately known.
