LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas Metro police said a suspect was taken into custody following an hours-long standoff that took place following a deadly shooting in the west part of town Tuesday afternoon.

Police said a woman was shot in the 2100 block of Henniker Way, located near West Lake Mead and North Rampart boulevards, about 4:45 p.m.

The suspect remained in the area of shooting, and a standoff that last for about three hours ensued. The suspect was taken into custody just before 8 p.m.

Las Vegas Metro police later identified the suspect as Bradley Francis.

According to police, the 45-year-old Francis is the victim's grandson. The victim ran out of the home followed by Francis before being beaten in the street and shot with a handgun.

Police said Francis then went to the backyard of the residence, where he remained until he surrendered.

The incident marked the 128th homicide in Metro's jurisdiction this year. The Clark County Coroner's Office was assigned to identify the victim.

Evacuations were in effect in the area as police worked to take the shooter into custody, and nearby Lummis Elementary School was placed on lockdown. Despite the lockdown, Clark County School District police escorted staff out of the building.
