MEADVIEW, AZ (FOX5) -

An 81-year-old all-terrain vehicle rider was killed last Friday during a trip to find gold in northwest Arizona.

According to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office, Gilbert Melton Dunn died after his ATV rolled down a steep incline on the afternoon of Sept. 30. The incident took place in a desert area southeast of Meadview, AZ, which is just near Lake Mead

Deputies said Dunn and a friend were prospecting for gold at the time of the incident. Dunn's ATV was climbing a 70-percent incline when the front end of the vehicle came off the ground.

Dunn's ATV rolled back down the incline about 100 feet, according to deputies. The vehicle came to rest on top of Dunn.

The sheriff's department's search and rescue workers assisted in recovering Dunn's body.

There were no other injuries reported.
