LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

With heavy hearts the friends and family of Christine Weir, 33, packed the parking lot of Floyd's construction in Pahrump for a car wash in her memory.

“Its terrible,” said Joseph Choiniere, the father of Weir’s fiancé. “The kids have been together for so long and she lived with us for many years before they bought their own house.”

Weir and Choiniere's son, Brian, were in love and planned to marry this month but their plans drastically changed when the happy couple was involved in a car crash.

“We've been planning the wedding which [was supposed to be] on the 16th, so now we've had to deal with canceling wedding plans and I’m starting to make arrangements to do a memorial,” Choiniere said.

Weir was riding in the passenger seat of her fiancé’s car when a suspected drunk driver, Ashley Winn, 22, hit them.

At the car wash fundraiser, Brian, 33, was too heartbroken to talk, but his dad said the circumstances surrounding the loss are difficult to process.

“It’s just totally wrong, for a person to just do that to be out as quick as [Winn] was,” Choiniere said.

Winn's bail was initially set at $200,000 but before she was booked and put in jail, justice court of the peace Ken Jasperson released her on her own recognizance with a return court date.

The judge later rescinded that release and reduced her bond to $50,000.

Choinere links the strange circumstances to Winn’s family line. Reports show Winn has a child with a sheriff’s deputy. Her child’s grandfather is the former undersheriff.

“[There’s] funny stuff going on,” Choinere said. “It don’t make sense, it don’t make sense at all.”

Through tragedy, Choiniere says they’re working to give Weir a proper burial, then seek justice.

“We just don’t want to see them brush it under the rug,” Choinere said. “We have to seek justice for Christine and possibly for the officials if they’ve done wrong.”
