LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A local organization's building has been vandalized and its members harassed over the past few weeks.

PLAN Action Fund leaders told FOX5 the attacks have ranged from bricks being thrown through the window to hateful social media messages.

Member Viridiana Vidal said she received a degrading note from a neighbor, which was anonymous. She claims it’s part of a trend.

“I talked to her (daughter) and told her that nobody can say anything bad about her because she’s from Mexican descendants or because she speaks Spanish,” Vidal said. “[The letter said] they don’t want the neighborhood to look like a barrio. It sounded very (disrespectful), kind of racist.”

Vidal said she never had issues with her neighbors before.

“It’s sad but at the same time it’s kind of eye-opening of all the hate,” she said.

Vidal said she’s encountering the same thing at the PLAN Action Fund office.

“We were doing a sign and he threw soda. He started to yell very racist words to us,” she said. “It’s never acceptable to just be hateful. I mean, we’re here minding our own business, talking to voters.”

Laura Martin, also with PLAN Action Fund, believes the brick through the window was racially motivated.

“Just being in the community, people not too happy with us supporting immigrant families,” she said. “This behavior is becoming more normal for some people because they see a prominent figure is doing it, and they think, ‘Hey, it’s acceptable.’ It is not. It’s not OK that you don’t respect others.”

Las Vegas Metro police on Thursday said they haven’t seen an increase in hate crimes. A police report was filed over the broken window.
