High school students threatened by creepy clown on Facebook - FOX5 Vegas - KVVU

Some Valley high school students are spooked after receiving threats of creepy clowns coming to their schools.

“At first it was different to me. I was like, I want to go home,” said Marcus Barerra, a Chapparal High School junior.

Barerra, along with more than a thousand other Chapparal students, received a friend request from “Garbo The-clown.”

Garbo's only post was sent out on September 27 and it reads "Everyone that goes to Chaparral High School in Las Vegas run!!! We're coming for you."

“When I read it I was like, ‘What’s going on?’ I was so confused about it. I was texting my mom about it,” Barrera said.

This is not the first creepy clown run-in in the Valley this week. A FOX5 viewer sent us a picture of a masked man at Las Vegas High School. 

Clark County School District officials said they have investigated, and both cases appear to be nothing more than bad jokes. 

Technically, there are no regulations on freedom of speech so people are free to dress how they want on public property. However, experts in the business of scaring people say leave the creepy clown routine to the pros.

“I would prefer that those people leave the scaring up to the professionals because that makes us look bad, too,” said Jason Egan, owner and operator of Fright Dome at Circus Circus.

Egan’s company puts on numerous productions that take months of preparation. Egan said trying to scare people without the right prep work is not worth it.

“We scare the living heck out of people safely, and that’s what I like,” Egan said. “They know what they’re coming for. They’re coming to get scared. They don’t want to expect it at their local high school.”
