LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A woman is trying to get by without her car after it was stolen from her in front of her 4-year-old daughter.

The robber had a knife and said he had a gun. He attacked the mother as she was dropping off her little girl at daycare.

Aisling Gonzalez and her daughter Lily were directly in front of the daycare located behind the Boulder Station Casino at about 5 a.m. on Sunday morning. It was still dark, and Gonzalez said she was startled by a man running at her from behind.

"It's pretty savage that someone would do that to a mom with her kids," Gonzalez said. "He needs to be off the street because he could shoot someone or kill someone. If he's willing to do that to get a car, he's a dangerous person."

The mother eventually handed over her keys once she realized the man had a knife. She said she didn't want to risk her little girl's life by resisting.

"I didn't want it to get to that point," Gonzalez said. "If someone comes up with a knife and a gun, you don't know what they're capable of."

Gonzalez said she doesn't blame the daycare or the neighborhood, especially because businesses have agreed to amp up security in the area. They promised more cameras, lighting and patrols in the area.

Police are now asking people to look out for a blue 2016 Hyundai Elantra. Gonzalez bought the car in March. The license plate reads 89B541. The majority of her belongings were inside, including her purse and wallet.

Now the mother is just trying to figure out how to explain this to her little girl, who saw the whole thing.

"She keeps asking me, 'Why did the bad man take your car?'" said Gonzalez, choking back tears. "How do you explain to a 4-year-old that there's really evil people in the world?"

Gonzalez said she believes the man who robbed may have been at the Boulder Station Casino before she was attacked. Now she says security is working with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to go through security video and find the man.

He is described as an adult male in his early 20s, between 5'5" and 5'7" tall and between 180 and 200 pounds.

Lily has been strong throughout the ordeal. She was scared when it happened, but keeps reassuring her mother that "We're going to get the car back."

If you see the car or have any information about this case, please call the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
