LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Motorists will have to use another route to access downtown Las Vegas this weekend.

The Nevada Department of Transportation will close Symphony Park Avenue between Grand Central Parkway to Martin Luther King Boulevard for demolition work.

NDOT will demolish a 180-foot-long bridge over Symphony Park Avenue at Interstate 15. Work will take place from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Sunday.

Motorists can access downtown using Alta Drive, Bonneville Avenue and Charleston Boulevard, according to NDOT.

The demolition will create room for the widening of Interstate 15 as part of Project Neon. The removal of the 19-year-old bridge will create room for a similar bridge located further west. Construction of the new bridge will begin later in September and is expected to be completed in 2017.

NDOT said all ramps in the Spaghetti Bowl will be open this weekend.
