BEATTY, NV (FOX5) -

A suspicious bag located in the town of Beatty, NV, Monday caused some panic.

FOX5 received numerous calls and email messages asking what was going on. The police presence was heavy and several businesses were evacuated.

The incident prompted Las Vegas Metro police to respond.

“All of a sudden I had employees asking me why there were cops here, so I went out there and I found that it was a suspicious bag,” said Alex Ringle, manager of Eddie World Gasoline.

A bag left behind normally wouldn’t be cause for alarm in the small town, but given recent events everyone has been on high alert.

“We should be but we shouldn’t have to be. That’s the way the world is today,” resident Cliff Carlson said.

“It was right next to the fuel pumps, right next to the charging station, where it was kind of being hidden,” Ringle said.  “Everyone was freaked out. As soon as they heard what was going on, the casino cleared in like three minutes.”

Nye County deputies and Metro police responded.

“A lot of personnel here. I mean, they had the robots, the dogs. They had everything,” Ringle said.

It ended up being a suitcase full of trash.

Metro police ask that anything suspicious be reported to them, even if it ends up being a false alarm.
