HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -

Henderson Hospital is scheduled to open up next month, but FOX5 received an exclusive first look at the Valley's newest healthcare facility.

On Monday, crews were putting the final touches on the $168 million building. They were hanging signs and monitors on the building's walls and moving some equipment.

"It's just exciting to see it all come together, after seeing drywall to seeing it all put together," Emergency Department Director Jodee Coopman said.

"It gives me goosebumps to even think about it, because it is really heartwarming to see it come together like it is," Chief Nursing Officer Tina Coker said.

But how exactly does a multi-million dollar healthcare facility "come together"? Administrators say it comes with a lot of planning. Crews had to design everything down to how air flowed through the rooms.

"It is a challenge. We have several mock-ups of what we were going to do, we had an entire operating room built out of Styrofoam," Henderson Hospital spokeswoman Rachel Lemahieu said.

Lemahieu said that Styrofoam model of the operating room was just one of the many steps in figuring out what the final floor plan would be.

While directors admit it's a challenge, they said building a hospital from the ground up has its advantages. Administrators said they were able to design areas of the facility using some of the latest research. Coopman said the up-to-date research is what influenced the hospital's emergency department, which has several different types of rooms for patients, helping get patients out of the waiting room quickly and into an area where they can see a healthcare professional.

"It's kind of a new concept as far as where we can move people when we run out of bed space that is appropriate for their care," Coopman said, showing FOX5 an "internal waiting room" filled with recliners and televisions instead of beds.

Coopman said it was a good area for patients with less severe injuries or who are recovering. The department also has "rapid exam rooms" for less severe injuries, and standard exam rooms.

Another unique feature: the lights in the hospital's operating room. The room has Indigo-Clean light fixtures, which kill bacteria while they are on. Henderson Hospital is the first in the nation to boast the technology, which Lemahieu said is a faster and easier alternative to other methods.

"The way it used to be done before these were available is we would bring in a UV light kind of thing that would come into the room, and you had to leave it on for several minutes," she explained. "Everybody had to be away from it because it wasn't safe to be a part of it, and now we have a constantly available technology always killing bacteria."

The Indigo-Clean lights are safe for people and are constantly on.

But with the finishing touches being put on the building itself, Henderson Hospital staff are eying new challenges.

"It's hard to decide how many nurses I need to bring in when I really don't know what the volume is," Coopman said.

Coopman said they are preparing for about 120 patients their first day, but they won't know for sure what to expect.

To get ready for the opening they are holding several hiring fairs. You can see a list of open job opportunities at the hospital on its website.

Henderson Hospital is scheduled to open on Oct. 31.
