LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Dirty mattresses, syringes and shattered glass comprise some of the debris one new homeowner says clutters her neighborhood streets.

Sandy, who asked FOX5 not to use her last name, said she moved in to her home, located near Interstate 215 and Fort Apache Road, two months ago and is alarmed by the piles of trash polluting the neighborhood.

“I’m horrified,” Sandy said. “I spent $25,000 of my life savings to buy the first house I’ve ever purchased. I did it because there’s an HOA, and I never thought I would move into a neighborhood full of garbage so badly that there's rats in the neighborhood.”

Out of frustration for what she called messy neighbors, Sandy is calling on the HOA to do something about it.

“We're not getting any help from the HOA,” Sandy said. “The HOA says they don’t have the money to pick up the garbage on a weekly basis.”

Right now, Republic Services comes twice a week to clear out garbage bins.

The HOA said it occasionally helps with the excess trash.

FOX5 called the community manager and asked her about the problem. We were told outside contractors are used to clear trash when needed.

Sandy is paying her HOA $40 a month. She was told the money goes toward roaming security.

Centennial Park’s HOA has a violation process. The community manager told FOX5 that violators get two warnings, and if they do not act on it, they’re required to meet with the board. At that time, they could be subject to a fine.
