Key ramp at Spaghetti Bowl to close this weekend

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A freeway ramp at the heart of the Las Vegas Valley is scheduled to close for 36 hours beginning Friday night.

Nevada Department of Transportation planned the closure of the connector ramp between southbound U.S. 95 and southbound Interstate 15 from 10 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Sunday.

According to NDOT, the closure allows road workers to shift ramp lanes in preparation of the billion-dollar Project Neon, which aims to widen a 3.6-mile stretch of Interstate 15 between Sahara Avenue and the Spaghetti Bowl interchange.

Drivers are urged to take alternate routes, including exits at Valley View Boulevard, Rancho Drive and Martin Luther King Boulevard. A marked detour will direct drivers to head to the northbound I-15, exit at D Street and re-enter the freeway southbound on the interstate.

NDOT said this weekend's work will also set the stage for an I-15 bridge demolition next weekend at Symphony Park Drive.

NDOT noted the affected ramp sees 3,100 vehicles per hour during peak times.
