LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A portion of West Cheyenne Avenue reopened to traffic Wednesday morning after it closed due to a suspicious package left at a Las Vegas Metro police substation.

According to police, West Cheyenne Avenue was shut down between Hualapai Way and Grand Canyon Drive.

The closure focused on the situation at Metro's Northwest Area Command, which is located at 9850 W. Cheyenne Ave. Metro stated it began investigating at about 5:45 a.m. an unattended package left in front of the substation.

Metro's ARMOR Unit, which investigates potentially dangerous items such as explosives, was sent to investigate the package.

Police later tweeted just before 8 a.m. that the package was deemed safe, and the roadway was reopened.
