NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -

Following a complaint about bed bugs under a booth at Hometown Restaurant, an eatery located inside the Silver Nugget Casino in North Las Vegas, the Southern Nevada Health District released the results of an investigation to FOX5.

Investigators found three to four live insects and at least one dead one under a booth in the restaurant. Insects were found under a crack in the carpet and crawling on the floor under the booth. They were also found crawling on the corner wall underneath the booth.

Insects were only found under the one booth, however. A total of 20 booths were inspected.

The district said pest control inspected and sprayed the restaurant on Sunday, after the complaint was made. Another round of fumigation was scheduled.

The restaurant was closed on Monday. When FOX5 called the restaurant Tuesday, a staff member reported it was open.

The inspection found the kitchen showed no evidence of pest issues.

An inspection of the restaurant on June 1 resulted in three demerits and an “A” grade.

FOX5 on Tuesday evening received the following statement from Silver Nugget Casino:

- Regarding our protocol for keeping the restaurant clean and up to code since we have received A's from the health department previously: Hometown Kitchen has consistently received "A" ratings from the Southern Nevada Health District, including after our most recent review.  Our chef has over 30+ years experience and is meticulous in keeping our restaurant up to code.

Silver Nugget Casino made the decision yesterday to close Hometown Kitchen while we investigated the alleged presence of pests.  Upon further inspection, the Southern Nevada Health District has approved the reopen of Hometown Kitchen as of 2:30 p.m. this afternoon, stating we have complied with all their requests and can see no reason for the restaurant to remain closed.

- Regarding additional claims about bugs in the casino:  Western Exterminator conducted another visual check of the entire property this morning at 5 a.m. and no instances of bugs were found either in the casino or Hometown Kitchen.  Hometown Kitchen has also reopened with the approval of the Southern Nevada Health District as of 2:30 p.m. this afternoon, stating we have complied with all their requests and see no reason for the restaurant to remain closed.

- Regarding our extermination procedure:  Our staff inspects all food & beverage areas daily.  If any signs of pests are noticed, Western Exterminator comes out to treat that area immediately. Western Exterminator also conducts routine pest control treatment on a monthly basis and bi-weekly during the summer season as a preventative measure to keep our property safe for both guests and employees.

Our staff followed this protocol yesterday upon receiving this initial complaint.  Only three unidentified bugs were discovered after a thorough investigation of both the casino and restaurant by our employees, Western Exterminators and the Southern Nevada Health District.
