LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The UNLV Rebels will get an upgraded practice facility thanks in part to a record $10 million donation to the athletics department.

The school announced the Fertitta family's endowment in contribution to build a state-of-the art football training facility, which will be named after the donors.

According to UNLV Athletics, the Fertitta Football Complex building will be a 73,000-square-foot, two-story facility that will house an academic center, locker rooms, offices, meeting rooms, a strength and condition center, media room, training table and nutrition bar, athletic training center and player lounge.

The complex will also become the day-to-day home of the football program.

The $10 million donation was called the largest single gift in the athletics department's history.

"We believe in the future of Rebel Football under Tony Sanchez's leadership and are proud to join others in the community in helping make this vital building block for the program become a reality," the Fertitta family said in a statement.

The facility is expected to cost between $24 million and $26 million with construction set to begin in early spring. It will take 10 months to complete.

A lead gift of $2 million toward the project was announced in May. The Fertittas' donation is earmarked as the naming rights purchase for the facility.

The Fertittas already bear their name on a tennis complex on campus.

"I thank the Fertittas for their program-changing gift and I know they join me in saying that we need more of the families of Southern Nevada to join the Rebels on this journey," said UNLV athletics director Tina Kunzer-Murphy. "We thought outside of the box when we hired Tony Sanchez as our head coach and everyone is already seeing the outstanding results both on and off the field."

The previous largest single gift to the athletics department was from the Mendenhall family's $7.12 million toward a men's basketball training facility.
