LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A 25-year-old woman is clinging to life after a serious crash near Charleston Boulevard and Maryland Parkway left her critically injured.

Jessica Sanchez was riding in the passenger seat while her boyfriend was behind the wheel of the car that was involved in a hit-and-run before crashing into a pole Friday night. Police booked her 19-year-old boyfriend, Raul Espinoza, for driving under the influence.

Jose Sanchez, Jessica’s father, said he liked and approved of the man that put his daughter in a life-threatening position. Now, the family is in shock.

“I didn’t know what to say or what to think. All I was praying for was my daughter,” Jose said.

Jessica remains on life support at University Medical Center.

“They told us there isn’t anything we can do,” Jose said.

The Sanchez Family is praying she will hold on, but they also have questions for her boyfriend.

“It was dumb. What he was doing,” Jose said. “I can tell you I was upset and angry. Just waiting for something to happen.”

Jose said the couple was driving to a cousin’s house.
Police said Espinoza was seen weaving in and out of traffic at high speed when he hit a car near Charleston Boulevard and Eastern Avenue. Then Espinoza hit another car near Maryland Parkway and eventually stopped after slamming into a traffic pole.

Espinoza walked away without serious injuries.

Jose said he trusted and liked Espinoza because he helped Jessica during a difficult time.

“She was depressed for a while and when she met him she was happy again,” Jose said.

FOX5 asked Jose if Jessica also drank before the crash, but he did not know.

Jose said he has a lot of unanswered questions and prays his daughter makes a speedy recovery.

Espinoza is due in court Wednesday, according to the Clark County Detention Center. Bail has not been set.

A Go Fund Me account was created to help the Sanchez family with medical expenses. If you would like to donate, you can do so here.
