LAS VEGAS (FOX5/AP) -

The Nevada Board of Education on Thursday afternoon voted to go forward with a plan that will radically change the balance of power in the Clark County School District.

The vote came down shortly before 4:30 p.m.

The plan, referred to as an “empowerment” model, will shift power away from the central district office and give principals more control over their budgets.

Under the plan, each school in the district will be a “precinct” and have its own volunteer board.

Originally, the plan was to split CCSD, the fifth-largest school district in the country, into smaller units.
