LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Nevada Rep. Cresent Hardy was sent to the hospital after suffering a minor heart attack, the lawmaker's office said Monday.

According to a statement released by Larry Farnsworth, the congressman's communications director, Hardy had a routine medical procedure done after the medical episode.

"Out of an abundance of caution, doctors are continuing to observe him while he makes a full and speedy recovery," the statement read.

Hardy is slated to return to a full work schedule later this week, the congressman's office said.

The GOP lawmaker is due back in Washington next week after the Congressional recess.

Hardy represents Nevada's 4th Congressional District, which encompasses the central portion of the Silver State as well as most of the northern part of Clark County.

Hardy is up for re-election to a second term this November.
