Neighbors: Strange activity seen at Vegas home before child shot

Posted: Updated:

Neighbors of a northwest Las Vegas home where police responded to a child's accidental shooting said there was strange activity taking place at the residence before officers were called.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, a juvenile was wounded as a result of an accidental shooting about 11:30 p.m. Sunday in the 4800 block of White Aspen Avenue, near Ann Road and Decatur Boulevard.

The child, who was not immediately identified as a boy or girl, sustained a non-life threatening injury to the stomach, police said.

On Monday, FOX5's door knocks to the home went unanswered. Neighbors believed a party took place the night of the shooting.

When it became clear that a child was shot, neighbors met the news with shock.

"Sad, man," said Robert Glasper, a neighbor. "It's bad. Who were the parents? Where were they? How did they get it (the gun)? A lot goes through my mind. It's bad. It's not good. It's bad."

John Kessler, another neighbor, said he noticed a boy who who matched Metro's description of the child victim living at the home.

"They ride their bikes up and down the street," Kessler described. "Typical children. I've never seen any of the adults in that house do anything inappropriate or yell at them or anything like that. That's why this incident is surprising."

According to Metro, an investigation continued Monday with the department's Abuse and Neglect Section taking the lead. Investigators will determine whether charges will be filed.

Police urged anyone with information on the case to contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
