LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas Metro police on Tuesday afternoon reported they were dealing with an armed person at a shopping complex located in the northwest part of town.

The incident was reported after 1:30 p.m. in the 7000 block of North Durango Drive, near Elkhorn Drive.

According to police, a gunman entered a TJ Maxx department store and held a weapon at workers and customers, who then fled within the store. Police were initially told the incident was an armed robbery with two people involved.

Officers responded to the store, taking a person of interest into custody. Officers then investigated the store for the possible second person, but police later determined there was only one person involved.

Police also said some workers and guests were barricaded inside the store and were not being held hostage. It was not known how many people remained.

There were no shots fired in the incident and no reported injuries.

Police urged people to avoid the area. Police closed Grand Montecito Parkway in both directions between Elkhorn and Deer Springs Way in order to deal with the situation. Nearby Centennial Hills Hospital was locked down as a precaution. That lockdown was lifted about 3 p.m.

Police said a SWAT team was headed to the scene.

FOX5 has a crew headed to the scene and will have updates as they become available.
