LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A woman was identified as the pedestrian who was fatally struck Thursday night in east Las Vegas.

The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the person as Elbira Gutierrez-Escobedo, 37, of Las Vegas. She died of multiple blunt force injuries as a result of an accident.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, the crash was reported at 9:03 p.m. near the intersection of South Eastern and East St. Louis avenues.

A 37-year-old female pedestrian was crossing west to east on Eastern in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a Dodge Magnum. Witnesses who were walking nearby told police that the signals for the crosswalk were not activated when the woman was attempting to cross the street.

The Hispanic woman was transported to Sunrise Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Dodge stayed on scene, and cooperated with police. Speed and impairment are not suspected causes of the accident. The driver told police that he or she did not see the woman crossing the street.

Police closed northbound Eastern at Sahara Avenue in order to investigate the crash.

The accident was the third auto pedestrian crash in the last two days, and the 65th fatal accident in Metro’s jurisdiction for 2016.
