LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas Metro police said a driver returned to the scene of a crash after striking pedestrian Thursday.

The incident was reported just before 5:30 a.m. at Sahara Avenue and Burnham Avenue, near Eastern Avenue.

According to Sgt. Richard Strader, of Metro, a pedestrian in his 50's was in or near a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a truck. The 36-year-old driver of the truck left the scene of the crash then returned about an hour later. A road worker picking up cones found the pedestrian and called 911.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the truck passed field sobriety tests, Strader said. The driver told police he left the scene out of fear.

The driver of the truck was arrested for "leaving the scene of an accident involving death," Metro said.

Eastbound lanes of Sahara Avenue are closed from Bruce Street to Eastern Avenue. Motorists are urged to use alternate routes.

The incident remains under investigation.

This was Metro's second fatal crash involving a pedestrian in less than 12 hours.

The identity of the pedestrian will later be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Metro's collision investigation section at 702-828-4060.
