Police: man stabbed multiple times in downtown homicide

Metro police are investigating a homicide that left one person dead in downtown Las Vegas early Saturday morning.

The incident occurred just before 2:30 a.m. with reports of a stabbing in the 300 block of North 16th Street, near Stewart Avenue and Bruce Street according to Metro.

Police said a woman at the scene directed first responders to a male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was transported to University Medical Center, but was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

An investigation by Homicide detectives indicated that two men were arguing over a woman. The argument escalated and one of the men stabbed the other one with a knife several times according to police.

Metro officers arrested 34-year-old Julio Aguero-Alvarez in connection with this incident. Aguero-Alvarez is facing attempted murder and murder with a deadly weapon charges.

This is the 35th homicide investigation by Metro in 2016.

The identity of the victim will later be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
