LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Marinello School of Beauty said it has ceased operations at two schools in Nevada Thursday.

One school located in the 5000 block of east Bonanza Road, near Nellis Boulevard and another in the 4400 block of east Sunset Road, near Mountain Vista Street were shut down.

According to the Department of Education, the two locations had 209 active students.

The department said investigators uncovered violations at the school, such as knowingly requesting Federal aid for students based on invalid high school diplomas, under awarding Title IV aid to students, charging students for excessive overtime, and engaging in other acts of misrepresentation.

Marinello said the department withheld funds from students for two months, and would not let the institution respond to, what it called unfounded allegations, by the department.

In a letter to students, the school said it did everything in its power to avoid the outcome.

The school said it is working on partnerships with other schools to help students finish coursework.

Meetings will be held on campus next week to provide students with information, the school said.

Marinello also closed schools in California. About 800 employees were affected by the closures.
