Person killed in North Las Vegas shooting is identified

NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -

A homicide investigation was underway Thursday night after a deadly shooting in North Las Vegas.

According to North Las Vegas police, a call of a shooting came in at 4:30 p.m. in the 3300 block of Civic Center Drive, just north of Cheyenne Avenue.

Police said officers located a male victim who later died at University Medical Center.

The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the male victim as 18-year-old Kishawn Washington of North Las Vegas.

Investigators believed an altercation took place that culminated in gunfire.

Washington died of a gunshot wound to the chest according to the coroner.

Police said the area where the shooting took place is heavily populated and they urged anyone with information to come forward. 

Police said a suspect has not been identified. 

This marked the third homicide in the North Las Vegas Police Department's jurisdiction in 2016.
