LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Metro police are asking the public's assistance in identifying the suspect arrested in connection with the officer-involved shooting Friday night on Las Vegas Boulevard.

An officer who was confronting the suspect in front of the Bellagio fountain on the Las Vegas Strip opened fire, missing the armed man but grazing a juvenile bystander.

Las Vegas Metro police said the officer responded to reports of a person with a gun about 7:10 p.m. Friday in front of the Bellagio, located along Las Vegas Boulevard.

Capt. Matt McCarthy, of Metro, said there were numerous calls from drivers witnessing a person weaving through traffic on the roadway, waving and pointing a firearm. An officer confronted the armed suspect, who did not comply to the officer's commands to surrender.

The officer opened fire at the man, missing him. McCarthy, though, said a juvenile nearby was grazed by a bullet. That person was taken to University Medical Center, treated and later released.

McCarthy also said clothing from another person nearby was grazed. That person, though, was not wounded and did not require medical attention.

There were no injuries to the suspect and the officer. The armed man was taken into custody and being held at Clark County Detention Center.

The suspect is only known as John Doe to authorities and police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the man.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.

Earlier in the evening, an eyewitness posted video to Instagram showing the impact of one of the shots:

Another social media user who was taking in the Bellagio fountain show captured sounds of gunshots that apparently occurred during the confrontation:

Traffic was backed up significantly. According to Regional Transportation Commission, north and southbound lanes of Las Vegas Boulevard was shut down between Flamingo Road and Tropicana Avenue.

Metro also shut down eastbound Flamingo from Interstate 15 to Las Vegas Boulevard.

Metro police later said the investigation would take several hours to complete, prompting further closure of a portion of the tourist stretch.
