LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Police said they are searching for the person who killed a man in the parking lot of a northeast Las Vegas apartment complex late Thursday night.

The shooting happened at 9:27 p.m. at the neighborhood located in the 4800 block of Luxor Way, near the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Nellis Boulevard.

According to Lt. Dan McGrath, of Las Vegas Metro police, officers arrived to find a man, identified by the Clark County Coroner's Office as Kelvin Johnson, 28, lying on the ground, suffering from several gunshot wounds. Johnson was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

McGrath said that investigators believe the gunman ran from the scene, jumped over a wall and fled in a white sport utility vehicle.

Detectives are investigating the possibility that the shooting stemmed from a robbery, McGrath said.

“His wallet was there, but I don’t know if anything was taken out of it,” McGrath said. “So, some of the witnesses heard several shots and then a little break and then several more shots.”

McGrath said Johnson was visiting family in the area and may have recently moved to Las Vegas.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
