LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Low clouds and rain in Las Vegas seemed to be causing delays at McCarran International Airport on Tuesday afternoon.

Foggy conditions earlier in the day gave way to widespread rainfall by the afternoon.

As of 4 p.m., according to the airport’s website, 34 arriving flights and 54 departing flights had been canceled. Two departing flights and eight arriving flights were delayed.

According to Flight Aware, all inbound flights to Las Vegas were being held at their origin until at least 5:30 p.m., because of the low clouds. An average delay of 3 hours and 43 minutes was reported for inbound flights.

Departure delays were averaging about 35 minutes, according to Flight Aware.

Experts recommended that passengers check with the airline responsible for their flight before coming to the airport.

Rain was expected to continue in the Las Vegas area until Wednesday afternoon.
