LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A climber died from injuries sustained in a fall at Red Rock Canyon Saturday.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, a climber, identified by the Clark County Coroner's office as 25-year-old Brian William Tracy, of Spokane, WA fell at least 80 feet at Oak Creek Canyon, a popular climbing spot at Red Rock, while hiking with others about 11:40 a.m.

Police said the climbers were completing a three-pitch climb, and were trying to set up a system to come back down. A rope system appeared to have failed when the male climber fell.

The climber initially survived the fall, sustaining serious injuries, with the others provided medical care, but the climber eventually succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Police added the male climber was not wearing a helmet at the time of the fall.

Police do not believe inclement weather was a factor in the fall. However, the wind prevented police from using the helicopter to recover the male climber and rescue the others initially.

The identity of the victim will later be released to the Clark County Coroner's Office.
