The group applying to bring the first major league sports franchise to Las Vegas said it has moved on to the second phase of the application process with the NHL.

According to Hockey Vision Las Vegas, the league invited the prospective ownership group into "Phase II" of the franchise process. In this phase, the group will provide the information by the NHL's request, including details of the Las Vegas market.

In return, the NHL has invited the ownership group to information relevant to the Hockey Vision's interest.

"With our application to the League, and as that's progressed, people are seeing that we have a committed ownership group, we have a state-of-the-art arena, a fantastic season ticket base," said Todd Pollock, director of ticketing for the potential franchise. "Things are really aligning for us, and we're excited about that."

The season ticket drive has surpassed 13,500 deposits.

Last month, Hockey Vision submitted an application and a deposit in hopes to attract an expansion franchise. Quebec City, which is the only other city in the running, was also invited to move on to the second phase, Yahoo Sports reported.

League play in Las Vegas is expected to start in 2017, if Hockey Vision is awarded a team.

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman has had a front-row seat as other ownership groups have used Las Vegas only for leverage. She feels this group, led by businessman Bill Foley, is different.

"I know Mr. Foley is someone with a really strong backbone and he's going to do everything he can to bring that franchise into this community, where it would thrive," Goodman said.
