LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

While plenty of Las Vegas Valley residents are planning a Fourth of July weekend getaway, hundreds of thousands of people will be coming to Las Vegas to celebrate.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority anticipates about 321,000 people will visit our city for Independence Day. Many of them will arrive on Friday.

“To give you an idea, that’s about the population of Riverside, CA, all coming to Las Vegas for one weekend,” LVCVA spokeswoman Heidi Hayes said.

Hayes said those visitors will pump about $215 million in our economy , an improvement of about 8 percent over last year.

“Whether it’s the Fourth of July or any other holiday, no one does it better than Vegas. We always bring it. We have pool parties, we have different entertainers. It’s just another reason to jump in the car or jump on the plane and come to Las Vegas,” Hayes said.

Hayes said that while summer is not typically Las Vegas’ busy season, an incredibly strong May combined with July 4 falling on a weekend has created momentum.

The LVCVA reported hotels are at 95 percent occupancy this weekend.
